The prize is the most significant international award in media arts. It was won by City Emeritus Professor Denis Smalley in 1988.
There were 834 entries in the Digital Musics Category and the award is an outstanding achievement for Jo, who said “The prize is a great honour and while I was writing music in the studios at City I remember wishing I could win Prix Ars Electronica one day”.
The official press release is available on the Ars Electronica website (in German).
For more information see Jo Thomas’s website.
Some of the music Jo wrote while she was a student at City (notably the tracks ‘Dark Noise‘ and ‘Glitch‘) is included on an LP called ‘Alpha‘, published by Entracte. The LP was nominated for a Qwartz award in 2011 and is available on the Entracte website.
