Group presentation to prepare for individual written assessment

Ellinor Olander  from the Division of Midwifery and Radiography explains how she uses group presentations and other methods to prepare her students for their summative written essays or reports.

For a midwifery module (MW1005) the formative work includes a 15 min group presentation (6-8 students). Students answer the same questions as they would in the report. They then get verbal feedback on the presentation by a member of staff.

The aim of this is to check that students have understood the assessment and what is being asked of them. The students also get the opportunity to send the module leader a 1 page summary of their report (2000 words). This year for the first time I am also offering an assessment surgery, which is a Q&A session for students.
