MEET THE RESEARCH TEAM!

 

Emily Skelton

MSc Pg Cert (Clin Ed.) BSc (Hons) FHEA

I am a Research Sonographer currently studying for my PhD at City, University of London. I am clinically trained in medical ultrasound and have been scanning babies since 2011. My professional and research interests include clinical education and training, advancing imaging technologies, parent-centred care, and strengthening patient, public and practitioner partnerships to improve healthcare experiences for everyone. As well as my doctoral study, I also work on a large-scale research project at King’s College London where we are developing new approaches to fetal imaging (including machine learning tools) to improve routine screening during pregnancy.

Prof. Susan Ayers

PhD MSc BSc (Hons)

Professor of Maternal and Child Health, City, University of London

Prof. Ayers is a chartered health psychologist and cognitive behaviour therapist specialising in perinatal mental health, particularly anxiety and birth trauma. She is a co-founder of the International Network for Perinatal PTSD, co-author of Psychology for Medicine (2011, 2018), and editor of the Cambridge Handbook of Psychology, Health and Medicine (2007, 2019). She has given numerous invited lectures and workshops and was awarded the Annual Lecturer Prize by the Society of Reproductive and Infant Psychology in 2012.

Dr. Christina Malamateniou

PhD (MRI) SFHEA DIC MA(Cl.Ed) MAcadMEd BSc (Hons)

Programme Director, Postgraduate and Doctorate programme, City, University of London

Dr Malamateniou trained as a radiographer and is an MRI expert, having worked extensively in brain MRI, perinatal MRI, placental MRI and high field MRI research studies at Imperial college, University of Liverpool and, King’s College London. She has also a keen interest in patient centre care in radiography, artificial intelligence, clinical education, research mentoring and research capacity building for healthcare practitioners. She leads the steering committee for the research mentoring programme of the Society and College of Radiographers (FoRRM) and has participated in or led many funded research projects in Europe and the UK. She received the clinical MRI prize and Leonard Levy prize of the British Institute of Radiology for her research presented at UKRC in 2006.

Prof. Mary Rutherford

FRCR, FRCPCH

Professor of Perinatal Imaging and Health, King’s College London

Prof. Rutherford trained as a paediatrician, specialising in neonatal neurology. She has worked with MRI for over 20 years. Her expertise is in the acquisition and interpretation of fetal and neonatal MRI of the brain. Her research interests include optimising MR sequences to allow objective quantification of both normal and abnormal brain development.
