Finding it difficult to get teaching work experience? One of the best ways is to apply to be a paid English/Maths/Science tutor via the Widening Participation team at City. You will teach 1-1 or a small group and the age range is from Class 5 to year 11 – so plenty of choice! You  tutor for 1-4 hours a week in local schools, so it fits easily around your studies. We will again soon be  advertising 100 paid tutor posts in April this year. Look out for these on the WP website  http://www.city.ac.uk/careers/city-opportunities/widening-participation-ambassador!

As well as this, you  can  search for schools to get experience in here https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/school-experience and the site also has other useful suggestions of other ways to get relevant work experience. Don’t forget, you can also you can book a careers appointment with one of the CityCareers Consultants to discuss the full range of work experience that is considered useful for teaching.

Finally, most PGCE applicants are eligible for a student loan (apparently lots of students are unaware of this!) And bursaries are available too , in some cases.
