Ros, more new publications: Indian and Chinese
Congratulations to Ros whose book Gender and the Media has just been published in India by Rawat in association with Polity press. The book, which won the IGALA book prize in 2010, is also shortly to be published in a Chinese translation.
Of laddish things: A new article by Ros Gillhas just been published in Gender and Language. ‘Powerful women, vulnerable men and postfeminist masculinity in men’s popular fiction’ analyses contemporary constructions of masculinity and heterosexuality in best-selling lad lit books by authors such as Tony Parsons, Mike Gayle and Nick Hornby. It argues that the humorous self-deprecating decidedly-not-Alpha males that populate these texts effect significant ideological work in depicting a world in which the gender tables have apparently been turned in women’s favour.
