Andy Pratt discusses Shoreditch on BBC Radio London

Hackney Council is considering changes to licensing laws in trendy night spot Shoreditch. In no small part the reason is due to the gentrification of the area, whose new residents like the image but not the actuality of a party on their doorstep. Andy spoke to the Breakfast programme on 12 Aug to take the long view of changes and waves of gentrification in Hoxton and Shoreditch on of London’s premier cultural districts. Andy wrote a paper about Hoxton (Pratt, A. C. 2009. Urban regeneration: from the arts ‘feel good’ factor to the cultural economy. A case study of Hoxton, London. Urban Studies 46 (5-6):1041-1061.) Which has the full story. You can find the interview at 7.35 on the programme.Untitled
