New professional Master in Cultural Management in West Africa

In September 2021, a new professional (practice-based) MA in Cultural Management dedicated to cultural entrepreneurs, administrators and operators throughout Francophone Africa, was launched by the Institute for Arts and Professions of Culture (IKAM) in Segou, Mali.

Unique of its kind, this new educational programme draws on the social and community values of Malians – Maaya code – linking tradition and innovation and applying it to the fields of cultural and creative industries with the objective of training a new elite of African cultural entrepreneurs.

Part of the educational team, Dr Jenny Mbaye concluded the first cycle of in person teaching by giving a week-long module on Cultural Policies in African Contexts, from October 25th to 30th, combining practical case studies, video-based conversations and focused lectures.

The  participants in this pioneer MA have been competitively selected and come from throughout the West African region (Mali, Togo, Guinea, etc.). Teaching will continue to run both in person and online with a programme spanning from 2021-2023.
