Monday 23rd May, 13.00: In conversation with CCI friends: UN Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development day

Seminar /Discussion on Monday 23rd May (13.00-14.30).

21st May marks the UN World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and to celebrate, Centre for Culture and the Creative Industries will be hosting a virtual talk (on 23rd) as part of our annual series ‘In Conversation with CCCI and Friends’.

This year we welcome back our PhD alumni, Dr Matías Muñoz Hernández. Matíasis a cultural economist who works with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) addressing issues of public policies for the cultural sector in the Global South. Currently, Matías is working as a research associate for several projects targeting the impact of COVID-19 in the cultural workforce. 

Our second speaker, George Gachara, is a creative industries expert, arts manager, and the managing partner at HEVA Fund LLP. George has pioneered the support and funding of creative businesses in East Africa via the HEVA fund and has raised over USD 10 million as well as invested in over 50 creative industry businesses. George has significantly contributed to the transformation of the creative economy policy environment in Kenya and in the East Africa region and was recently appointed as the advisor on culture, to the Minister of Sports, Culture and Arts in Kenya.

The talk will tale place at 13.00 and be moderated by Dr Jenny Mbaye and chaired by Prof Andy Pratt, who will conclude the session with a short report on the award for CCI as part of the UNESCO Chair in Global Creative Economy.
