CERES is still recruiting for one PhD position. We are looking for a candidate to join our research team and work on projects in the next three years. Studentship is jointly funded by CERES and City, University of London.
PhD Position on “Lubricants for oil-injected positive displacement machines”
The PhD project, entitled “Lubricants for oil-injected positive displacement machines”, is focused on creating an analytical and/or numerical tool for selection and evaluation of lubricants for future positive displacement machines in carbon neutral energy systems. The aimed output of the project is guidelines for using novel lubricants for PDMs in such systems.
The PhD student will work closely with the world leading experts in modeling of rotating machinery under the Chair. The overall objective is to set criteria for defining new carbon neutral lubricants for positive displacement machines and develop requirements and tools for selecting lubricants for new generation of environmentally friendly positive displacement machines.
It is expected that the candidate has a good mathematical background, excellent knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics and holds a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline. Good skills in using programming languages such as Python or similar are desired. The candidate is expected to have a positive attitude toward teamwork, ability to work proactively and independently and has motivation to learn and contribute to this multidisciplinary project.

SALARY: £17.5K per year, 3 years plus travel budget
