Professor Ken Grattan, Conjoint Dean of the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and the School of Informatics, was amongst a small group of dignitaries chosen to meet Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh at City and Islington College recently.
The Royal Party took a tour of the College’s Centre for Applied Sciences to officially open a new Animal Care Centre and present an Award of Excellence in Biotechnology.
Professor Grattan was invited to the event thanks to the close links that have been forged between the School of Engineering and Mathematical Science and the College over the past 15 years.
He says: “We have been running highly successful foundation courses with City and Islington College that have produced some excellent City engineering graduates. The event gave me the opportunity to highlight how we are supporting engineering education in London to both The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke’s strong interest in the field is reflected by his role as the Senior Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.”
