The Optometry department has a strong presence at this year’s AOP awards

Health Sciences News.

The Optometry department were well represented at this year’s annual Association of Optometrists awards dinner at the Birmingham Hilton on the 7th November.

Polly Dulley, who obtained both her BSc and MPhil from City, became Great Britain’s optometrist of the year. Bernard Gilmartin, who also received his PhD from City, was presented with the evening’s top prize, the lifetime achievement award.

Unfortunately, although Ron Douglas and Steve Gruppetta, shown with the host for the evening, BBC Breakfast Naga Munchetty, both made the last 3 of the lecturer of the year award, the gold medal position eluded them. However, City definitely would have got the team medal on points (if there were such an award).
