A message from Professor André Spicer, Dean of Bayes Business School – April 2023

Dear Alumni

It has been a busy Spring indeed, with much to celebrate here. Bayes was named a Centre of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries, making us one of only two institutions in the UK with this designation. The University was also listed in Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers 2023 for the first time and received a Silver award in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. In our bid to continuously grow and improve, April saw the first meeting of our new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council. The aim of this council is to support and improve our strategy and initiatives in these vital areas.

With our events programme in full swing, I was delighted to have the opportunity to travel to Malaysia and Singapore in March where I met with many of our alumni there. Further alumni receptions are planned for Dubai and Athens in May, and I look forward to meeting more of our community at these special occasions.

Events in London continue apace so many thanks to those who have joined us over the past months, including the many alumni who attended this year’s amazing Bayes Innovate. There is much to look forward to this year, including the Mais Lecture 2023 on Monday 5 June and the Bayes Alumni Forum taking place in London on Saturday 23 September. We look forward to sharing more details about the Alumni Forum in due course but expect exciting talks, workshops and networking opportunities, celebrating the best of Bayes. Do mark both the dates in your diary if you can.

I would like to close by thanking all alumni who took a phone call from one of our talented and enthusiastic students as part of the Spring telephone campaign in support of our Future Fund. Your contributions provide life-changing financial support for our students through initiatives including scholarships and our City Cares project. You can read about your impact here. For those of you who received a phone call, I hope you enjoyed connecting with our students, hearing the latest news from Bayes and City, and getting a taste of student life today, as well as our research programmes and planned activities for alumni.

Over the past seven years, generous support from alumni has raised over £700k in gifts and pledges through our student telephone campaign, creating numerous opportunities for students, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. I am grateful for your commitment and continued support of your University, the current generation of students as well as our global alumni community. Thank you!

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Alumni News.

Best wishes,

Professor André Spicer
