The Development and Alumni Relations Office hosted the Annual Scholarships, Prizes and Bursaries Evening on Thursday 24 January.
The prizes and scholarships awarded not only recognise students of outstanding ability but also enable students experiencing financial hardship to study at City University London. Congratulations to all the students that were nominated and awarded this year!
We would also like to thank all the institutions, charitable foundations, Livery Companies and individual donors who have made these awards possible.
If you would like to know more about supporting City students in this way, please contact David Street, Director of Development and Alumni Relations – firstname.lastname@example.org or +44 (0) 20 7040 55.
Welcome to your Alumni Network.
If you didn’t pick up any graduation souvenirs on the day, you can browse our alumni merchandise now! The range we have on offer includes bespoke jewellery, class of 2012 hoodies, t-shirts (printed with your name and those of your fellow classmates), Waterman pens and City branded certificate frames.
The City Future Fund, which supports current students, receives up to 20% of the revenue from the sale of these items.
We have also uploaded some photos from graduation to our Facebook page. Please feel free to tag, comment or add your own.
This week, City is launching a new Volunteer Management Programme. Current students who would like to make a difference and help change lives in Islington are encouraged to apply for funding of up to £250 to set up a volunteer project. Students will present their project ideas to a panel of City staff, alumni, ex-staff and the Students’ Union Executive team who will then decide on the level of funding. City is committed to helping the local community and this programme will address the needs of one of London’ most deprived boroughs.
It is only with a very generous donation from an alumna that we have been able to set up this programme. A regular donor to the City Future Fund, the alumna was so impressed with the impact the City Future Fund is having on students, that she wanted to help more. One of her passions is helping community groups in need so asked for her donations to be directed to helping students get involved in volunteering in Islington. We are very grateful to our alumna for her ongoing support (she wishes to remain anonymous).
Students involved in the programme will benefit from project management, budgeting and volunteer experience, all shining examples to put on their CVs for those important job applications. Above all, the local community will benefit and with support from City alumni, we hope to continue the programme next year.
For more information on how to become a City donor, please contact Lucy Gabe, Senior Campaign Manager – email@example.com or +44 (0) 207 040 3098.
This year, we wanted to show our appreciation for support from alumni like yourselves by creating a short video. Students from all areas of the City Future Fund came together to help us create this for you; from scholarship recipients to mentees to student callers.
You may recognise some of the backgrounds used in the video – we hope it brings back good memories!
The City Future Fund has teamed up with Give as You Live to raise money for current City students in need of support.
By downloading Give as You Live onto your laptop, tablet or phone you can raise money for the City Future Fund through your normal online shopping AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU! With Christmas just around the corner, this is the perfect time to start fundraising for City whilst shopping online.
To sign up, go to www.giveasyoulive.com, choose ‘City University London’ as your cause and download.
In November, the Clerkenwell Waitrose store on St John Street will be raising money for the City Future Fund through their Waitrose Community Matters scheme.
Each month Waitrose split £1000 between three local charities and decide on the amount by asking customers to put a green token (given at the checkout) in one of the three boxes each time they shop. The more tokens a cause gets, the bigger the donation they receive.
The Waitrose Community Matters donation will be helping current City students make a difference in Islington and the surrounding area through community volunteering projects. You will be helping City students set up and manage projects such as concerts for the elderly and after school clubs for local primary schools.
So, for those of you who shop in the Clerkenwell Waitrose, please remember to pop your green token in the City Future Fund box in November!
Thank you for your support.
We invited our most valued City Future Fund donors and volunteers to our first Thank You Event last month. It was a fantastic evening with some truly inspiring stories.
