Benefits of Routine Exercise

Easter break in university and spring time in London is always a special time of the year. The sun finally starts coming out, surroundings get colourful and exam stress for students start to take the toll. But among all this, a fitness enthusiast starts to shred his weight in order to get in shape for the summers.

For me, there is a thin line between bulking and shredding, as I am already really lean, but for many shredding means longer time in the gym with more intensive work outs. And I too want an intensive day at the gym to get me going for the rest of the day.

Routine exercise doesn’t only improve physical health but it also has very positive impact on mental health. Personally I can feel the difference. If I am having a bad day, hitting the gym and training hard makes me less worried and feel good. So I ask the readers to also start hitting CitySport regularly. Summer is fast approaching and all of us students need a break from the hectic daily revision and there is no better option than CitySport.

Give it all you got!

Since last week something has hit me! Maybe it’s a friend in my accommodation who has incredibly bulked up since hitting the gym or it’s just my realisation that I have to give my best whenever I go to CitySport.

So no more of long break between sets and more of sweating and going all out. I went by the motivation, that if I am going to the gym I might as well give my 100%. One week in, and I already see the results.

And this Wednesday, I signed up for an intensive cross fit-crawl bar training. As if I wasn’t challenging myself already. 10 minutes into the hour long exercise routine and I was dying. I signed up for the exercise partly because the trainer told me it’s very intensive even though it looked easy. I mean how hard can a resistance rope, fixed around you while crawling, look? That class was a reminder of the intensive athletics training I used to do back in school in Pakistan. Good old days.

Getting to know CitySport

This week at CitySport was all about discovery and getting in the gym mood.

Working around my schedule, I managed to hit the gym four times in the last 7 days and underwent plenty of weight exercises to gauge the array of machines and equipment available at the gym. The best part: CitySport has all three, inclined, declined and flat chest press benches, which my previous two gyms lacked, and this makes a chest day so fulfilling.

Sore body and the adrenaline from weight training is something I definitely cherish after a two months period of no gym. But I certainly remember to take it slow to the weights I used to be at. Haha, I don’t want the body soreness to turn into a muscle throbbing pain. And I find it greatly helpful to talk to the gym trainers there and seek for advice. Even better, the more professional gym goers are mostly approachable and give very useful suggestions.

As the first week was all about discovery, I learnt to avoid the rush hours, a.k.a 5pm to 8pm. I don’t like waiting for other people to finish with the gym machines as it hampers with my rest and exercise plan. Mornings and Wednesdays are the best to be honest.

About Me – Sameer Alam

Hi my name is Sameer Alam, and I am a second year student at Cass Business School. My hometown is Karachi, Pakistan and my experiences in London so far have been amazing.

Outside of the classroom, I am involved in various activities at university. Aside from being a part of AIESEC CITY, I am also a student ambassador for City and work with the marketing department to promote my university. Outside of university, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family. I am also an athlete who loves cricket and cats.

I used to be an avid middle distance runner back in school and competed on a national level. I loved running and thrived on the competition but due to injury was forced to abandon it. Since then I have shifted my focus on other sports such as boxing and badminton. I am starting to love them as much as I loved running and hope to improve myself with the help of CitySport!

City Sports is an excellent sporting facility and I am proud to use it and represent it through my blog. With a CitySport membership I hope to achieve an optimum fitness level. I intend to do this by regularly hitting the gym and following a mixture of strength and cardio based exercise routine. I am also hoping to play badminton with fellow City students and improve on my stamina and skills needed in the game. Other than that I will be looking to join boxfit classes and it will also be a great chance to meet and become friends with other City students and faculty.
