Believing is everything!
Someone once told me ‘there are no limits to what you can accomplish, expect the limits you place on your own thinking’. When I first came to university, I didn’t think I was going to achieve anything much. My grades at school were always average and I didn’t get into the course that I wanted to do, so I decided to do an alternative course to get into my dream one and I knew that required a lot of work as I needed to achieve a first which I thought was impossible. But without the help and support from my family, lecturers and friends I wouldn’t have accomplished it.
Everyone always said to me university is an amazing experience and I never believed them till now. University is not all about freedom and independence, it’s about finding yourself and seeing what you can achieve, like Louis Khan said, ‘even a brick wants to be something’.
I always felt shy to ask questions in school to my teachers, but that is my biggest regret. Lecturers are the ones that know the module you are learning inside out, they know the knowledge better than anyone, don’t be afraid to ask, if you ask, I promise you will achieve. Don’t relax back and let all your work slide by, this is your future, this is time for you to prove to yourself how much you can really achieve. Saying that, don’t excessively work that you don’t end up giving yourself any breaks. Plan your time effectively, prepare everything well in advance before your exams, understand the content and you can achieve a first. If I can do it, anyone can. Don’t be your own enemy!
Life is hard, never think anyone has it easy. We all have an equal chance at achieving, there will be ups and downs but that is all part of the experience; and just remember, a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
