People working with deaf children have lots of skills and knowledge. Sharing our ideas helps us understand children better. We can see a child’s strengths and needs, this helps us plan together.

                             

In module 1, we have information about the course including;

• why we need language to discuss language,
• language development and language environments, and
• the roles of different people.

We can notice things about language but we need to be able to discuss the things we see. The research project showed that SLTs and Deaf Language Specialists do not always share language to discuss language. This module helps begin discussions about language where there are concerns about a child’s language development.
