Finding migrants in the food system: learning policy lessons from lived experiences of migrant communities in Islington borough, London

This PhD research adopts a systems-thinking approach to the food system, i.e., viewing the food system as a holistic, complex system with different interconnections between its various elements and actors from production to waste and disposal.

The research aims to:

1) develop a revised food system framework that puts people at its core

2) draft food and public health action and policy recommendations to improve local food environments, particularly for migrant populations at the borough level.

The project is part of a UKRI-BBSRC- funded doctoral training programme focused on developing a healthy and sustainable food future and is led by Olive Zgambo Nugent and runs from Sept 2022 – Sept 2026.
