Joined Up Landscapes

Joined Up Landscapes

Joined Up Landscapes (JUL) examines opportunities to enhance the contribution of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to climate change adaptation in the UK in the medium to long term.

JUL is a transdisciplinary research project, led by the Centre for Food Policy, City St George’s, University of London, which brings together researchers and practitioners to build new knowledge that shapes land use policy and practice.

JUL is part of the Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) programme and MACC Hub, jointly funded by UKRI (NERC) and Defra.

Trust in Food Systems

Trust in Food Systems

‘Trust in Food Systems’ is a research area within the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. The Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems encompasses a research programme of oriented basic and applied research in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and social sciences across the Republic of Ireland (ROI), Northern Ireland (NI) and Great Britain (GB). The Co-Centre presents a unique opportunity to rapidly develop innovative and transformative solutions to transition the food system and position Ireland and the UK as a research and innovation global leader for positive and sustainable change in the transition to climate-neutrality by 2050.

The ‘Trust in Food Systems’ work package aims to strengthen interdisciplinary understandings of the current food system policies and regulation in Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, together with their alignments, conflicts and necessary trade-offs.

THRIVING

The Transdisciplinary Health Research to Identify Viable Interventions for Net zero Goals (THRIVING) Food Futures research hub will find policy solutions that reduce the carbon footprint of our diets whilst maximising health co-benefits. Funded by UKRI and NIHR, the research hub is a meeting space for the public, policymakers and academics to co-design and evaluate policies for healthy, sustainable diets.

The Centre for Food Policy joins a collaboration of researchers from Cambridge, Strathclyde, Warwick, Queen Mary University London, and Sustain, led by the University of Oxford.

FixOurFood

FixOurFood

FixOurFood is a large, interdisciplinary research programme that aims to understand and build pathways towards food systems transformation in Yorkshire and across the UK. The programme focuses on three research areas: regenerative farming; hybrid economies; and sustainable and healthy food for children.

The Centre for Food Policy (Dr Rebecca Wells and Dr Christopher Yap) is leading cross-cutting research that specifically examines and contributes towards developing the policies, governance structures, and decision-making processes that are necessary to transition towards fairer and more sustainable food systems. FixOurFood is led by Professor Bob Doherty at the University of York, with partners at the University of Leeds, Cranfield University, and the University of Manchester, as well as local partners across Yorkshire.
