Moodle 2.8 and improved integration with Reading Lists Online

This post is part of a series of blog posts introducing what’s new in Moodle 2.8. This post provides an overview of the improved integration between Reading Lists Online and Moodle.

Your Moodle modules are organised in sections that are structured in topics or by week to provide relevant resources and activities to students at the appropriate time in the module. However, before the recent update to Moodle 2.8, students would have to navigate from the section that they were working on in Moodle to the top of the module to access an e-resource or check the availability of a book in the library from their Reading Lists.

The improved integration with Reading Lists Online means that as well as providing your students with a link to their Reading Lists from the Module Dashboard at the top of each Moodle module you can now provide links to relevant readings within a section of your module. This provides a more integrated and structured experience for students when navigating between their online content and Reading Lists resources as students can access the relevant readings at the right time.

To add a resource from your Reading Lists to a module section navigate to the relevant section in your Moodle module. Click Add an activity or resource and select the new resource Aspire resource list.*

Training and Guidance

Guidance for this new feature and existing functionality in Moodle is available from www.city.ac.uk/edtechhelp/staff.

To support staff in exploring the new features in Moodle 2.8, LEaD will be running a series of initial workshops on What’s new in Moodle 2.8. These sessions will run for 90 minutes and are suitable for all staff who have responsibility for designing, managing and/or administering Moodle modules. Staff can book a session using this form: www.tinyurl.com/newinmoodle.

*To use the Aspire resource list you first need to have added your module reading list to Reading Lists Online.
