LEaDER Launch

On Tuesday 8th January 2019 Professor Andrew Jones, Vice-President (Research & Enterprise), launched the LEaDER centre alongside Professor Susannah Quinsee and Professor Pam Parker. Professor Tansy Jessop Professor of Research Informed Teaching at Solent University provided a stimulating keynote on the untapped potential of pedagogic research. Tansy focused on the arguments for pedagogic research which include evidence-based practice, developing and modelling curiosity, invites students into conversations about education and keeps us reading. Tansy provided a brief historical overview of the growth of pedagogic research and the increase in journals and articles over the last few decades. Tansy also highlighted some of the issues related to this still being seen as new and emerging field by some. Tansy then focused on some strategies to make this happen which included developing writing skills and practice and building a community of writers. This keynote provided plenty of thought for the centre moving forward. The slides have been uploaded to this link https://www.city.ac.uk/lead/leader-centre/leader-launch-invitation/leader-launch-keynote and the video will be uploaded soon.

LEaDER will over the coming months start to host a seminar series related to issues such as Pedagogic research and REF and writing for high impact journals. Case studies from on research and practice informed education from colleagues across City will also be published over the coming weeks. There will be a writing community set up and some funding to support research. Please do keep a watch on the LEaDER webpage here.
