Changes to accessing online resources

Today we are making some changes to our login screens for access to:

  • Your City Library Account
  • Online resources
  • Requesting items

These should make the pages much more user friendly.

As a result you may experience some brief disruption to accessing the resources today, Tuesday 29th August.  This should not last too long.  If you do find you cannot access an online resource or your City Library Account, please try again later.

Science Direct: access problems

ScienceDirect is a fantastic database covering topics like science, technology, business, management, accounting, health sciences, engineering and social science: making it one of our most popular resources.

Unfortunately there is currently a problem affecting access to ScienceDirect: our E-Access Team are working hard to find out more information and solve the problem, but it seems like it’s impacting on libraries across the country.

We will try to update you as soon as we can, but in the meantime apologies for any disruption experienced.

Web of Science downtime

Web of Science will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Sunday 25th June from 1pm to Monday 26th June at 1am.  This will result in periods of downtime throughout this 12 hour window.

Please plan your use of Web of Science around this time.

Access to online library resources

The server move that was planned for Wednesday morning took place on Sunday, ahead of schedule.  Apologies for any disruption this caused you.  We have been in touch with our suppliers, who undertook the move, to ensure that they stick to the agreed dates in future.

If you experience any problems logging into online library resources please contact the Library’s e-access team e-access@city.ac.uk giving them as many of the following details as possible:

  • Your username
  • The resource you were trying to access
  • The web browser you were using
  • Details of the error messages you are receiving

CANCELLED: Wednesday 21st June: Library system downtime

This work took place earlier than scheduled.

 

 

Between midnight and 9am on Wednesday the 21st June our Library system will be unavailable.  This will means that you will not be able to:

  • Renew any items on your Library account
  • Access any online library resources
  • Use CityLibrary Search

This is a result of our suppliers moving their servers.

Please plan your use of the online library resources, and the renewal of your loans, around this time.

Library Services staff have been working hard to ensure that access to electronic resources is restored as soon as possible.  However, you may well find that some resources become unavailable after this work.  If you experience any problems logging into online library resources that you have previously accessed with no issues, please contact the Library’s e-access team e-access@city.ac.uk giving them as many of the following details as possible:

  • Self-issue or return of items
  • Access to e-resources (databases, journals, e-books etc.)
  • Access to CityLibrary Account, including:
    • Renewals
    • Placing requests
    • Paying charges
  • Book availability information in CityLibrary Search

This is due to our supplier undertaking some maintenance work.

Please plan your use of the Library resources and your Library account around these times.

Room bookings – back up and running

The work taking place on our Library bookings system was completed ahead of schedule and you can now make bookings for:

  • Group study rooms at the Northampton Square and Law Libraries
  • Silent study spaces at Cass
  • Database PCs and Bloomberg Terminals in the:
    • Bloomberg Dealing Room (Cass)
    • Financial Resources Zone (Cass)
    • Financial Resources Suite (Northampton Square)
  • Library Workshops
  • One to one appointments with Subject Librarians

 

Room bookings unavailable: Monday 10th

The Library bookings system will be unavailable from 1am – midday on Monday 10th April. During this time you will be unable to make a booking for:

Now fixed! – Problems accessing databases through A-Z lists

The problems we experienced earlier (see below) with our Databases A-Z and Library Guides are now resolved.  Apologies for the inconvenience.


We are experiencing a few problems with our Databases A-Z at the moment.  We are working with our supplier to resolve these as soon as possible.  Whilst we wait for a fix, you can continue to access specific databases by searching for them by name in CityLibrary Search.

The same issue is intermittently affecting access to some of our Library Guides.  To access these, just refresh the page or try again in a few minutes.

Please accept our apologies for this, we hope to get everything back to normal soon.
