Following the success of 24/7 opening in January, we will once again be opening 24/7 at Northampton Square Library and Cass Learning Resource Centre in the lead up to and during the spring assessment periods to give you more time to use the Library for revision and preparation for exams and assignments.
From Tuesday 29th March until Friday 6th May the Learning Resource Centre at Cass will be open 24/7.
At Northampton Square, 24/7 provision will run from Monday 25th April through to Friday 3rd June. This includes Bank Holidays – but remember our staffed services will not be available after 9.00pm or on Bank Holidays.
If you are planning on taking advantage of 24/7 opening here are a few things you need to remember …
• To bring your City University ID card; if you do not have your ID card you will not be permitted access.
• To leave the University premises quickly and quietly. We are based in a residential area, so please be mindful of our neighbours when leaving late at night (or early in the morning!).
You can place a book on hold when there are no copies available at all or if the only available copies are at other sites.
Once a hold is placed, a copy of the desired item will be put aside for you upon its return; or a copy will be transferred from another site for you.
This can be done by following the steps in this short video:
When a book is completely unavailable it can potentially mean a long wait, especially if lots of people have made the same request but please do not be put off by this.
By placing a hold you are alerting library staff to the fact that a book is in demand and holds statistics are used to inform our purchasing. In other words, when a book gets placed on hold a lot we may buy more copies to help satisfy demand.
Finally, when that book gets put aside for you, you’ll receive an email to let you know it’s available for collection and how long for. Additionally, its status will change in CityLibrary Search to ON HOLDSHELF. Please present your card at the Service Desk of your chosen pick up library to collect it.
And that’s all there is to it.
Holds are both a great way to help you get what you want as well as a way to help us get you more of what you want.
Our recent Feedback Wall showed that you are keen to see stapling in CityLibrary.
Well, did you know that you can use the larger combined printers and photocopiers in the library for stapling, too? The option can be selected from the Printer Properties menu. From here you can get the printer do many of the things you might want it to do, such as print in colour, print multiple pages or multiple slides on one sheet. Through the Finishing part of the menu, you can select Stapling: this section allows you to say how many pages you would like stapled together and whether you want your work stapled in the top left corner or in a booklet format.
Check out this video that shows you how:
Give it a go – it’s a useful and new function that can be used to staple essays or lecture notes at the same time as printing them!
