Between 1st October and Christmas Library Services will be running a pilot scheme allowing the consumption of food and drink in library spaces.
The success of the scheme will be monitored throughout the autumn term and will only become policy if all students work together with Library Services to make it a success.
It was great to meet so many of you at the City Library Services stall at Freshers’ Fair set in the University’s brilliant new sports facility, CitySport. We hope you enjoyed meeting us, finding out a bit more about the Library Services and learning how to search for resources.
If you missed our stalls you can always say hello to us via social media. This term we want to know what you love about Library Services. Take a photo on Instagram, tweet or write on our Facebook wall. Whether it’s the studious buzz of the third floor at Northampton Square, the artworks in the Graduate Centre or even just reading a library book on the bus in the morning, we want to know.
All entries will be entered into a prize draw to win a free goody bag. Just remember to use the hashtag #LibraryLoves
We have spent this summer adding some great new resources to our collections, we’ve made a number of changes and improvements to our facilities, by moving collections we have created extra study spaces at Northampton Square and Cass, we have new lighting and furniture throughout Gray’s Inn Place. We’ve also been part of a University wide project to improve the printing and photocopying facilities, and deliver a more environmentally friendly service.
Our Subject Guides have been fully updated and Academic Library Services have been busy creating a number of new workshops which will run throughout the year. We hope these will help you access our high quality collections and offer you effective support for your study and research.
Many of the improvements we have made over the past year have been as a direct result of student feedback, including our annual Library Loves … Feedback, the University wide Your Voice Our Action campaign, and of course the results of the National Student Survey. I am delighted to say that Library Services improved its score from last year by 3% to 89%. I am very proud of my staff and all they achieve but we want to do even better this year, so please remember to share any comments you have with us. You can do this through speaking to us in person, contacting us via email or using the new feedback pages on our website. We look forward to working with you and wish you all the best for your studies in the year ahead.
