We are happy to introduce John who has joined the Modernising Administration for Students team from the CLS for a period of 6 months, where he was the course officer for the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Graduate Entry LLB (GELLB). His focus will be primarily on the SEAM and Personalised Timetables projects.
John’s experience of being a course officer, which involved work in admissions too, is valuable to our team when working on projects that are improving the administrative process across the University.
John has worked in Higher Education, particularly at City, for 6 years, starting within the Student Centre, after finishing his undergraduate degree in Journalism, before moving to the CLS as a student administrator and then progressing to be a course officer. While working as a course officer, John completed a Masters degree in History.
Alongside his full-time role within City, John is also a private tutor in a variety of subjects from Key Stage 2 through to degree level. He has been working with students to help them reach their targets for two years. John is passionate about education, efficiency, self-reliance and personal transformation.
In his private time, John enjoys reading, his favourite books being the autobiography of Malcolm X and Franny and Zooey, as well as exploring his passions for tea, coffee, whisk(e)y and cognac, with the occasional cigar to match. On top of this, he persists with his eternal struggle to learn French, Arabic and keeping an exercise routine, despite running a few 10ks and taking up boxing in recent years. In a former life, he was also a spoken word poet; this led him to perform at the IndigO2 and Symphony Hall, Birmingham, as well as other venues across the UK.
Please join us in welcoming John to the MAfS team and say ‘Hi’ the next time you cross paths in a Teams call!
