Brijeshkumar Patel, a PhD student in the Centre for Compressor Technology has won a Best Student Award at the Herrick Conferences held at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA.
He was part of the team representing the Centre.
This Herrick Conferences – considered to be one of the top conferences in the world in the fields of Compressor Engineering, Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning, and High Performance Buildings – celebrate 50 years of innovation.
Brijeskumar also won a Best Student Award at the Herrick Conferences in 2020.
His winning 2022 paper was titled Infrared-Thermography And Numerical Investigation Of Conjugate Heat Transfer In Roots Blower (Brijeshkumar Patel, Sham Rane, Ahmed Kovacevic, City, University of London).
The Centre also presented four additional papers at the conference:
- Experimental Investigation of Screw Compressor Clearance Monitoring Techniques Thibault Tam1 , Ahmed Kovacevic1, William J Milligan2, Tong Sun3, Kenneth Grattan3, Matthias Fabian3, Thibaud Plantegenet1, Brijeshkumar Patel1, Sankhyabrata Bandyopadhyay3 (1 Thermo-Fluids Research Centre – City, University of London, UK; 2 Howden Compressors, Glasgow UK; 3 Research Centre for Photonics and Instrumentation – City, University of London, UK)
- Development of Experimental Test Rig for Internally Geared Screw Compressors (Aleksander Krupa, Ahmed Kovacevic, Matthew Read City, University of London)
- Training Neural Networks to Predict the Energy Efficiency of Screw Rotor Profiles Sumit Patil1,2, Sathiskumar Ponnusami1, Ahmed Kovacevic1, Neeraj Asati2
(1 City, University of London, UK; 2 Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited, India) - Epitrochoidal Gerotor Profiles with Asymmetric Lobes (Matthew Read City, University of London).
Brijeshkumar said:
‘It is a proud moment for me to receive the Best paper award for the second time in a row at the Herrick Conferences. It is good to see that our research work is getting recognised and appreciated internationally in prestigious conferences. I would like to thank my colleague Dr Sham Rane and my PhD Supervisor Professor Ahmed Kovacevic for their great contribution and relentless support for this work’.
Professor Ahmed Kovacevic, Howden/RAEng Chair of Compressor Technology, said:
“I am really pleased that the majority of our team could visit the Herrick Conferences at Purdue conference after a four-year pause and exchange our experiences with the broader community. Well done to everyone but my special congratulations go to Brijesh. This is his third best paper award in last two years. The interest and recognition shows the importance of this research and I hope that Brijesh will continue with further successes in future. Huge congratulations Brijesh!”.
