Training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy

In SOFIA we have worked with BRIEF who offer two and four day introductory courses. They also offer more advanced training. They live and breathe Solution Focused practice and have extensive experience in training others in the approach, including many Speech and Language Therapists.

Training in counselling skills for Speech and Language Therapists

I went on training course at intandem on creative counselling skills. It was a thought-provoking and supportive course and I found Sam Simpson, the trainer, to be perceptive and generous.

Training in using Talking Mats

Finally, we use some of the concepts from Talking Mats in SOFIA, particularly when working with people with severe aphasia. It can be a good way of opening up a visual and accessible conversation, for example, around what a person likes/ dislikes, or what they are hoping for from the therapy.
