Life at City University London so far

How would I describe my first 4 weeks as an Electrical and Electronic Engineering at City University London so far? Hard work. Lots of assignments. Long 9-5 days. Sleepless nights. No girls in the class. And getting drunk at the Saddlers during the ‘I love Wednesday’ events and on Friday nights. That pretty much summarises the life of an engineering student. On that note, the person that told me the workload for first year is very minimal deserves to be slapped. But most importantly I am enjoying my course. A week into lectures and we are told to visit the Science Museum and to write an investigative report based on what we observe. Nice to know I am paying nine thousand a year to visit a landmark that is free to attend.  I also thought that the first couple weeks would be pretty simple, no assignments, and not a lot of work to do. But my lecturer thought, “B**** please” and handed us five assignments. Two weeks into lectures and we have an unexpected visitor in class, a girl. All those days of playing Boy Better Know’s track, “Too many man” came to an end. However, we later found out she only came to pick up her jacket which she had left behind from the previous lecture. At that point we were all so depressed we searched for Michael Jackson’s, “She’s out of my life” using the Spotify app on our phones. Four weeks in at City University and eagerly awaiting reading week to catch up on some sleep and rave every night. I mean study hard and get up to scratch on D.C circuit theorems.

University life has been highly distinguishable compared to the life at my secondary school. I can’t travel for free anymore using my 16-18 Oyster card,  the cost of lunch has substantially surged, the workload has instantaneously increased, the frustrated frown on my face became larger when I found out you have to pay for text books, I have met a greater ethnically diverse range of people from all parts of the world, there is no room for procrastination, I have joined societies (dance, photography, snow sports) where there are several other people who also share the same interests, and that Absolut vodka seems to knock me out the fastest. Overall, University life has kept me occupied which I am thoroughly enjoying.
