Using a Living Lab approach, the School of Science and Technology and the Property and Facilities department have teamed up on a dissertation project for the coming term. The research project will be reviewing City’s current solar panel installations on the Tait building, providing Christopher Pinheiro, Renewable Energy and Power System Management MSc student, with the opportunity to perform research in a real-life setting, working with City’s energy and electrical professionals. Assessing the current performance and formulating recommendations for improvement, the dissertation is expected to inform and increase renewable electricity generation on campus, contributing towards City’s net zero carbon emissions by 2040 commitment.

If you are interested in sustainability and looking for support to integrate the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development into your dissertation or coursework proposal, while gaining real world experience on campus, then please contact the Sustainability team. You can also review the University Living Lab platform which lists available real-life projects from a range of businesses and charities.

If you have already engaged with one or more of the 17 Global Goals during your time at City (whether in your learning, teaching, research or other activities), we are always working to share good practice and showcase innovative ideas from students and staff through our annual Global Goal report. Please contact us at Sustainable_City@city.ac.uk to share your work or find out more.
