*An eDelphi is a special kind of online survey that looks to find agreement across a group, and sees whether individuals can be swayed by what the group results say. Through iterative rounds, eDelphis find out how much consensus exists on a topic.
Phew…it’s been a busy summer here at APT HQ with data collecting but we’re not done yet!
If the APT project were a football match, we’d be at half-time.
Speech and Language Therapists from around the UK took part in our 1st eDelphi which had 3 rounds, from April to August. This eDelphi sought to find consensus about what should go into a new communication partner training therapy for people with aphasia and a member of their family. Therapists were asked to rate specific components of training that derived from theory in terms of whether they should be included in – or excluded from – aphasia partnership training (APT), and were given the opportunity to share new ideas and feedback. There was lots of practical advice about what might be feasible and realistic to deliver within an NHS setting.
In a few weeks, the 1st eDelphi will close for international researchers. When that happens, we’ll have the full set of data from the first ‘half’, including the nominal groups we held for people with aphasia and family members in London and Derbyshire in June. We are looking forward to finding out how these four stakeholder groups compare when we look at the results altogether. Stay posted for more updates shortly!
We’d like to take this opportunity say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to the following Speech and Language Therapists who contributed to at least one of the three rounds in this first eDelphi:

What’s coming in the 2nd half?
We’ll be launching the 2nd eDelphi on 29th August for UK SLTs. The aim of this eDelphi is to find consensus about the outcomes you might expect from APT, so that we can line up some meaningful outcome measures to determine whether or not the therapy works. This 2nd eDelphi will be open to all UK SLTs with NHS experience, and experience of delivering CPT to a person with aphasia and a family member.
- If you have already given consent to take part in the APT project, we’d love you to take part in the 2nd eDelphi. Look out for an email from the APT team on Monday 29th August with a link to Round 1.
(Nb. you do not need to have taken part in the 1st eDelphi to be able to take part in the 2nd). - Alternatively, if you’d like to take part but haven’t signed up yet, you can sign up for Phase 2 only. Here is some more information to help you decide (the consent form is included in the same link): https://cityunilondon.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2o5ev1HTfdG1l6C
