Call to City students to be a WP Ambassador or Tutor

It’s that time of year again, where City students can help us reach out and inspire young people to think about university, share your passion for your studies and enhance your employability skills.

We have two paid roles you can apply for, as an Ambassador or a Tutor.

The deadline for both applications is 5pm on Sunday 8th October 2023.

Widening Participation Student Ambassadors

As an Ambassador you will work at on-campus and in school events to:

  • inspire young people to achieve their potential
  • support them to consider and apply to university
  • build your skills and make a difference

Ambassadors support the Widening Participation Outreach Team on events for young people in Year 5 through to Year 13 (9-18 years old), sharing your experiences through on-campus events, taster sessions, 1:1 mentoring, campus tours and visits to schools.

The paid role is flexible and works around your studies. Ambassadors earn £10.42 an hour plus holiday pay on top!

And as a bonus, you become part of a network and community of WP Ambassadors and Tutors, and can attend social events each year!

Widening Participation Tutors

Get paid to tutoring young people from under-represented backgrounds, either online or at their school.

Tutors work with pupils as young as Year 5 through to Year 13 (9-18 years old) in either Maths or English at primary and GCSE and A-level. You will get to develop your listening and interpersonal skills.

Tutors travel to schools in Islington and our local boroughs or deliver tutoring sessions online on a weekly basis from November through to May, with the option of continuing through to July.

The minimum amount of tutoring per week is 1 hour,  and tutors choose which placements they commit to, making it flexible to your diary. Many tutors work with more than one school a week.

Tutors will be paid £11.88 for each tutoring hour you do, plus holiday pay. And on top of this travel expenses are covered, and for some schools prep time is paid. There will also be various paid training sessions taking place throughout the year.

And as a bonus, you become part of a network and community of WP Ambassadors and Tutors, and can attend social events each year!
