Attachment in Fetal Imaging Study:

Maternal and paternal experiences of antenatal imaging and their potential effect on parent-fetal attachment (bonding)

 

Your participation will help us to gain a better understanding of parents’ experiences of antenatal imaging to improve experiences for parents in the future.

 

What will happen to me if I take part?

If you decide to take part in this research study, you will be asked to complete two online questionnaires (before and after your scan). These will take approximately 15-minutes each.

You may also be invited to take part in a telephone interview after your scan. This will take no longer than 60-minutes.

 

Who can take part?

You can take part in this study if:

  1. You are attending a fetal imaging appointment (ultrasound or MRI scan) at St. Thomas’ hospital
  2. You are 18 years of age or older
  3. You have a good understanding of the English language
  4. This is your first baby and you have had your first-trimester (12-14 week) NHS ultrasound scan

 

What will happen to the results of the research study?

The results of the study will be summarised in a thesis which will submitted in part fulfilment for the award of Doctor of Philosophy at City, University of London. Summarised results may also be published in medical literature which will be available online. Direct interview quotes may be used, although no patients’ names or any other identifiable information will be included. The final anonymised data set may be made publicly available to support journal publications.

 

Who is organising and funding the research?

This study is being jointly funded through awards from the College of Radiographers Doctoral Fellowship, and the Research Sustainability Fund at City, University of London.
