The occurrence of stroke and the meaning and occurrence of aphasia.
I was at my Gym (Virgin Active – Mill Hill) on 10.03.17 on the first floor when the stroke happened. The time was 9 o’clock in the night and that’s when the gym closes. I came down on the ground floor and I consumed some water and that’s when the stroke happened. After that I lied down on the floor in the changing room and move my right hand and right leg but they refuse to work. Only my left hand and my left leg was working.
Personal trainers has called an ambulance which reaches the gym at 9.20pm. I am lying on the ground but am still awake. The paramedics loaded me on ambulance and took me to Northwick Park Hospital. But the moment they boarded me on ambulance, I was unconscious. I figured out 3 days later that I was given the thrombactomy at St George’s Hospital within 4 hours.
I was fully awake two days later with my right side completely paralysed and my speech was fully gone.
I, after a couple of months, came to understand the meaning of Aphasia. It means inability (or impaired ability) to produce or comprehend speech, as a result of brain damage.
What’s happening right now in my life.
After my stroke, I was absolutely without speech for the first two months and I was completely Paralysed with my right side. After 3 months of being in 3 different hospitals, I came home. My right side was completely paralysed and my speech was coming back with one or two words at a time. After two months, I started speaking a bit of Hindi and no English. And then, month on month, Hindi returned sooner and English returned a bit more slowly.
As of now, after almost 2 years Post-stroke, the process of Hindi coming back has slowed down because the language return is complete or even if not complete, nearly complete. The process of English coming back has become much quicker because the language return is nowhere in the vicinity of being complete.
My right leg and right hand have in the last 2 years appeared much better and is almost as strong as my left leg and left hand.
What’s happening in the future: when and where I am returning to work Post-stroke and Post-aphasia.
I have started meeting my business partner at his house cum office in Devon county. I go and meet him once / twice a month.
He has also sold a couple of houses and wants me to regularly meet his clientele to sell houses. This is the first time I am returning to work Post-stroke and Post-aphasia.
The other area of work I would be involved with is a consultant with a fundraising company. I being the consultant, usually, involves meeting clients of the company. Once I have met the clients, and subject to getting the initial documentation signed, I would look to raise some debt or equity funding for the. I was very involved with this company pre-stroke and I am looking for the first client post-stroke now.
