Yvonne Ehrstein
Department of Sociology
Hi! I’m a PhD researcher based in Sociology at City. I gained a Masters (Dist) in Sociology and German Studies from Goethe University Frankfurt.
My PhD research explores the maternal working femininities on mumsnet.com, and is animated by two core questions: 1) how continuing and new forms of gendered inequality are navigated in on- and offline contexts, and 2) the ways in which maternal subjectivities make sense of evolving feminist narratives. I’m currently thinking about notions of female outrage, im/balance and im/perfection in relation to the maternal.
My broader expertise and interdisciplinary research interests centre around gender, (post)feminist theory, the neoliberalisation of culture and discourses at the intersection of work and care.
I am passionate about teaching and currently teach on courses on gender, society and qualitative social research methods. Reflecting my commitment to teaching innovation, I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
