Meg Poff
Meg Poff (they/them) is a PhD candidate in the Department of International Politics under the supervision of Dr. Koen Slootmaeckers and Dr. Dan Mercea. Their interdisciplinary research, which combines insights from the fields of international politics, sociology, and gender and sexuality studies, focuses on identity negotiations within LGBTQ+ and queer social movements in the Western Balkans.
Before beginning their PhD at City, Meg completed an Erasmus Joint Masters Programme in Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian studies through the University of Tartu, University of Glasgow, and Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Their MA thesis similarly explored activist identity politics within the context of Serbia. Their interest in the Western Balkans grew from a research fellowship at the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, where they investigated the security environment for LGBTQ+ people in Serbia, and from an internship at ERA – The LGBTI Equal Rights Association for the Western Balkans and Turkey.
