We have a new building, Abacus House

Abacus House Front DoorInformation Services has moved into the new Abacus House building, opposite the Gloucester building.

The last team to move in was the IT Service Desk who took up their new desks just before Christmas, bringing our IT related teams into one building.

Service will continue as before, with staff and students able to obtain IT Support 24 hours a day on extension 8181, or by logging a job at www.city.ac.uk/itservicedesk. The old IT Service Desk office in EG02 is no longer in use, so any equipment collections should now be made from the IT Service Desk in E101.

Around 120 staff were relocated, the building prepared, and equipment was set up, all without disrupting any of our IT services. This included moving 116 desks and 171 new chairs!

We have a new IT Training Room

IT Training room with PodIn the basement of Abacus House, you will find a brand new IT Training room. Managed by the IT Training Team, this room has been in high demand for a range of different training sessions from SITS, SAP and Squiz training to specialist training sessions on technologies being introduced to the University.

Joanna Pentecost, Business Systems Trainer remarks that “it is an excellent resource for training staff on all of our business systems. One of the biggest benefits is the ability to offer a wide range of courses and 1:1 sessions safe in the knowledge that we have a quiet, purpose built space in which to conduct the training.”

The room has a teaching pod with projector, and 10 PCs, all of which have been installed with the University business systems.

If you require a space to conduct IT training for up to 10 staff, please contact ittraining@city.ac.uk
