You may have heard the word Sharepoint floating around the office for some time, however, we would now like to introduce you to the very exciting concept of Team Sites
Microsoft SharePoint is a web-based management information system that supports collaborative working and enhances business processes within departments across the University. Users collaborate in a web based environment with a familiar MS Office type interface and use a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, to access and share information.
Within SharePoint, there is a standard template for all projects – the Team Site. A SharePoint Team Site is a collaborative environment that provides teams with a central location for organising and sharing information. Most Team Sites include Document Libraries and Lists which can store various types of files and data. Team Sites can include sub-sites such as shared document libraries, calendars, task lists, and discussion board.
SHS have recently launched a Team Site ‘Work Hub’. This is an innovative and interactive tool designed as a central resource for all School staff with features such as ‘A-Z’ Policies and Regulations; Annual Programme Planner, SHS Academic Calendar that incorporates various student and academic activities, committee dates etc. This is the first significant usage of a Team Site which will be adopted by an entire School and serves as a great example of the extent of which the features can be utilised. A later edition of the IS Newsletter will see an article evaluating the success of this Site.
