Students’ perspective discussed at ‘excellent’ Good Morning City Forum
The Learning Development Centres’ new fora, Good Morning City, got off to a great start this month with the opening session – Students Behaving Badly: Management of Disruptive Behaviour in the Classroom.
The early morning sessions, which continue this month on the 25th, provide an excellent opportunity to share good practice and debate issues around a wide range of subjects related to teaching and learning. The inaugural session was run by Sian Lindsay and Stef Smith of the LDC and featured two guest speakers: Professor Jane Marshall, Chair of the Working Group on Student Behaviour, and Khaleda Boshir from the Students’ Union. They both gave short but highly engaging talks about their own experiences of disruptive behaviour and how it can be handled.
The session was very well received, generating a lot of discussion and plenty of positive feedback. Several participants reported that they were particularly pleased to have the opportunity to hear about the issues from a student perspective.
If you missed the session or want a recap, you can view the presentations and other relevant information in the LDC Good Morning City Fora community in MyCity: http://my.city.ac.uk/communities/service/html/communityview?communityUuid=e048d935-2721-4d83-b404-2a993e0e8299, as well as listen to the podcast summary by using this link

The benefits and challenges of facilitating group assessments
All teaching staff are warmly invited to attend the second session in the LDC’s Good Morning City series on Thursday 25th November starting at 8:30am until 9:30am in room E201 (The MILL). Olivia Fox and Annemarie Cancienne from the LDC will be hosting this morning session looking at the benefits and challenges of facilitating group assessments.
The objectives of the session are to talk about some of the possible ideas for group assessments, and to learn from the experience of colleagues and case studies. There will also be a co-operative quiz on learning through group assessments.
We would welcome your perspectives and opinions at this seminar, and if you would like to attend please email ldc@city.ac.uk
Teaching with Technology: A Survey
At the Learning Development Centre we are continually using research into learning and teaching to inform our practice and policy. We therefore try to support such research as much as possible, whether it is conducted at City University or externally.
Chris Shelton of the University of Chichester is currently investigating the use of technology in undergraduate teaching and we would be grateful if you could take the time to complete a short survey on the subject. The survey asks for your thoughts and opinions about your undergraduate teaching and how you use technology to complement this.
Your opinions and thoughts about the subject and your experiences with it would be greatly valued.
The survey is entirely voluntary and completely anonymous and it should take around 10-15 minutes to complete.

If you have any questions about the survey please contact Chris Shelton, Senior Lecturer in Education, University of Chichester at c.shelton@chi.ac.uk
Thank you in advance for your help.
