Introducing the bloggers: Veronika

I don’t think anyone can really accurately describe themselves; I have, after all, spent almost 18 years living as myself, and compressing all that into a blog post has left me a bit stumped.
I suppose, then, that I’ll start with basics: Hi everyone! I’m Veronika Kelemen, and I’m a 17 year old fresher studying Media Studies and Sociology here at City. I was born in Budapest (where all my relatives live, so my immediate family and I visit every summer), lived in London until I was eight years old, and then moved to Darien, Connecticut, an idyllic suburb about a half hour outside New York City (where I spent a good majority of my time). I am very lucky in that I have not just three passports, but three homes; Budapest, London, and New York are familiar enough to me that I feel comfortable and happy living in any and all of them. As far as hobbies and interests go, I love my dog, Ralph, running (on this note, can anyone recommend me a running club?!), reading, fashion, music, and social media.
My choice to study in the UK may seem somewhat unusual given the amount of high quality universities in the US. I had always seen myself moving back to London eventually, and so come university application time, my father, a City alum himself, suggested I apply to City. I did so on a whim – very nonchalantly, as I genuinely believed I would not receive an offer. When my offer turned unconditional, nine months after I’d submitted my UCAS application, I was ecstatic. Now that I’m here, I’m most excited about being able to study a subject I’m genuinely passionate about in a city I have always considered home, but now from the perspective of a student living and studying alone.
