2nd Annual Research Symposium – CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The LDC is pleased to announce that it is currently accepting abstracts for its second annual Research Symposium which is being held on Tuesday 26th June 2012.

Proposals for posters and papers are invited for this symposium, which is designed to enable current PhD students to share their research with their peers in order to gain feedback in a supportive and safe environment. It provides a great opportunity for PhD students to acquire invaluable experience of presenting their work to an audience, an essential step in the development of an academic career.

Further details about the call for abstracts, including the abstract submission form, can be found at the following address: http://www.city.ac.uk/about/education/ldc/events/reserchers-symposium. The deadline for submitting an abstract is Thursday 19th April.

Student Voice Awards Open for Nominations

The Student Voice awards for City University Staff will be presented to winners at the upcoming Learning at City Conference on the 13th June.

The nominations process is now open and students can nominate any member of staff who they feel has made an outstanding contribution to their student experience. There will be at least one winner from each School and one from Central Services, as well as a further seven prizes awarded to the next best nominees. The winners will be decided by a committee led by the Students’ Union.

Please encourage your students to make nominations here – https://webapps.city.ac.uk/forms/16770. Nominations should be made as detailed as possible to ensure that the application stands out.

The nominations process will remain open until Monday 7th May.

    Digital Researcher workshop

On 21st March two members of the LDC, Neal Sumner and Ajmal Sultany, together with Emily Allbon from Library Services, facilitated a workshop on the uses of social media for researchers and academics. More details about the workshop can be found on the LDC’s Educational Vignettes here.

The feedback from the event was very positive and everyone had something to take away from the event, whether making their first ‘tweet’ or discovering the power of social bookmarking. LDC would be keen to hear if there is more interest in holding more of this kind of event in future.

Please send your suggestions to #CityLDC or ldc@cityac.uk
