Greece Alumni Board: “We are excited to grow together as a vibrant and active community”

In 2024, Alumni Volunteers in Greece formed The Greece Alumni Board, formally recognised by City St George’s. The board comprises nine members and their goal is to foster a sense of community among Greek graduates and strengthen their connection to City St George’s and Bayes Business School.

“Remaining connected [to the University] allows alumni to benefit from shared experiences, professional opportunities, and mutual support,” says Maria Repouskou (MA Global Migration, 2012), the Greece Alumni Board’s Head of Communications.
“It’s also a way of keeping the spirit and values of the University alive, no matter where we are in the world.”

Greece has a thriving alumni community, and The Greece Alumni Board was formed last year on the initiative of senior Alumni Volunteers.

The new alumni board comprises President George Politis (MSc Shipping, Trade Finance, 1997), Vice President Panos Katsaras (MA Political Journalism, 2011) and seven members: Maria Mavroudi (MSc Shipping, Trade and Finance, 2007 and LLM in Maritime Law, 2015) –General Secretary, Zefi Karakatsani (MSc Finance, 2006) – Head Treasurer, Maria Repouskou (MA Global Migration, 2012) – Head of Communications, Paraskevi Trikalopoulou (LLM Maritime Law, 2017) –Head of Careers, Angeliki Kavouriari (LLM Maritime Law, 2016) –Head of Events Planning, Dimitris Arvanitis (LLM International Energy Law and Regulation, 2012) – Board Member, and Yannis Criticos (MBA, 1993) – Board Member.

“Joining the board was a way for me to give back to the community that has played such a pivotal role in shaping my personal and professional journey,” Maria says.
“I wanted to contribute to building a vibrant and active alumni network in Greece, helping fellow graduates connect, collaborate, and thrive.”

City St George’s and Bayes alumni are invited to attend several alumni events during the year. In 2024, this included the Alumni Reception in Athens, kindly supported by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation. The event featured a fireside chat with Harry Vafias (BSc Management and Systems, 1999), CEO of Vafias Group and judge on Dragons’ Den Greece, and offered alumni in the region the chance to network and connect. Alongside University-led events, the Greece Alumni Board also hopes to develop additional opportunities.

“Greek alumni can look forward to a range of exciting initiatives aimed at fostering both professional growth and social connection. From insightful networking events to casual meetups, we are committed to creating opportunities for alumni to engage and reconnect,” Maria says.
“As we continue to establish our presence, we’re also exploring ways to provide resources, mentorship opportunities, and updates from City St George’s, University of London and Bayes Business School. The future holds great potential, and we are excited to grow together as a vibrant and active community.”
