I have been enjoying the Summer so far in London. It is also perfect timing for our class of 2025 to prepare for graduation and – together with families, friends and staff – celebrate that momentous day when students become alumni, hard work and dedication turns into achievement, and the future is brimming with possibility.
As the class of 2025 is about to join our proud network of alumni around the world, I encourage you, our valued alumni, to make them feel welcome in your communities and professions in the spirit of your alma mater and the values that brought us together.
Their journeys, like yours, are a source of inspiration to our City St George’s community, and we are proud to share and celebrate your successes and the impact you have in the world. I am always inspired by the remarkable achievements of our alumni, whose diverse successes, illustrated in this and every edition of Alumni News, reflect the values and education that unite us as a community.
As we continue the process of integrating legacy City and St George’s, I am excited to share with you that we have recently marked a historic moment for City St Georges Students’ Union. As part of a legacy project led by the 2024/25 SU Officer Team – the first team to serve across the newly merged institution – we sealed a Time Capsule that captures the essence of this transformative year. The capsule houses mementoes from both legacy institutions, as well as personalised contributions that tell the story of this first chapter as a unified community.
When I last wrote to you, I expressed my gratitude to all our inspirational alumni who have been supporting our current as well as prospective students through volunteering your time, insight and expertise, as well as your philanthropic contributions. I am pleased to report that our student callers had a particularly successful spring Annual Fund telephone campaign reaching out to alumni and raising more than £100,000 in support of current students, especially those facing financial hardship. Thank you for your continued commitment and generosity.
I wish to close on a summery note – with a buzz, if you will. If you are not yet familiar with the City St George’s bees that live in the garden on the roof of the University Building, you might be interested to know that they have been especially productive this year – and looked after by the University’s Sustainability and Volunteering teams and staff volunteers who keep their habitat as optimal as possible. Much to the delight of the City St George’s bee enthusiasts, last month saw the annual honey harvest from our very own hives.
Have a wonderful summer and enjoy reading this edition of Alumni News!
Yours
Anthony
