Here’s to 2026! I hope the new year has got off to a good start for you, your family and friends.

First, a moment to look back at 2025 – a year of historic firsts for your Alma Mater, the University of business, practice and the professions. In our first full year as a newly merged institution, City St George’s has seen student and alumni successes, bold new initiatives and impactful milestones. Over the past twelve months, we have launched our new brand, excelled in national rankings for our focus on careers and employability, and been part of historic moments for the City of London.
By combining the world-leading specialisms in health and medicine of legacy St George’s and legacy City’s excellence in a breadth of disciplines, our merger has created opportunities to generate significant change in the world of healthcare and already our successes are visible in the Higher Education sector and beyond.
Confirming our status as one of the country’s most career-focused institutions, City St George’s was ranked in the top 10 in the UK for graduate salaries and high-skilled jobs in the Daily Mail University Guide 2026. As our core mission is to enable our students to build successful and fulfilling careers, I am proud to see our alumni achieving these results in the world of work. The University also placed 26th overall out of 128 ranked institutions; a strong result for the newly merged university in our first full year. At a subject-level, we were ranked 1st nationally for both Biomedical Sciences and Anatomy and made the top 10 for Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Health Science, AI, and Business Studies.
Another 2025 milestone was the launch of our new Artificial Intelligence Research Centre in the School of Science & Technology (SST) in November. Focused on its mission to advance rigorous, responsible, and societally meaningful AI research, the AI Centre enables a distinctive combination of machine learning, formal reasoning, and interdisciplinary collaboration and marks the start of an exciting new phase for AI research at City St George’s, positioning the University as a leading contributor to this rapidly evolving field.
2025 also marked the introduction of the Careers & Employability team’s significant enhancement of our alumni employability offer to include lifetime careers support for all graduates. From navigating job searches for the first time to pivoting careers, to exploring postgraduate study – all graduates, regardless of when you graduated, now have ongoing access to expert guidance from the University’s Careers & Employability Service.
In recognition and continuation of the University’s historical links to the City of London, the installation of the elected Lord Mayor as Rector for City St George’s has been an important moment in our academic calendar since City St George’s secured the Royal Charter in 1966. Lady Mayor of the City of London, Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE, made history in November with the first ever Lady Mayor’s Show. As Lady Mayor, Dame Susan will serve a one-year term as Rector of City St George’s as well as head of the governing body of the Square Mile, the City of London Corporation. Her role will include serving as a global ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector, working with business leaders and government representatives to strengthen global business ties.
2026 is well underway and I am excited about continuing our ambitious path. In doing so, I am proud and grateful for the achievements and contributions of our alumni around the world.
It gives me great pleasure to share with you City St George’s Impact Report 2025 in this edition of Alumni News, as well as highlight the latest successes of alumni who have received prestigious recognition for their services to society. Our alumni demonstrate the amazing impact your support has had on our students, the University and our alumni community. The stories and successes outlined in the Impact Report 2025 are a direct result of the philanthropic generosity of our alumni. I am also delighted that our alumni volunteers of 2025 are about to receive their City St George’s Certificate of Appreciation for their commitment and support of the University in a volunteering role. On behalf of our students and staff, I am grateful for the support you give and your contribution to making City St George’s the special place and community it is.
To close, please join me in congratulating our new graduates who, together with their proud families, friends and staff celebrated receiving their degree certificates during our winter graduation ceremonies earlier this month. I am confident you will welcome them to our great City St George’s alumni network.
I wish you all health, happiness, and success for the year ahead.
