International Politics Photo Contest

Celebrate the end of the academic year and of this most sui generis Covid year by unleashing your creativity and capturing the reality of politics with a photo! Submit an entry for the Best Political Photo Contest, summer edition of the Department of International Politics at City, University of London, deadline 1 July, 9am (London time, UK). Prize 50£ + publication in our blog.

It can be a recent picture or an old one, explicitly or implicitly about politics. What matters is that it must be your work and must come accompanied with a short explanation of its significance and a short introduction of yourself. See attached the instructions.

Submissions must be sent to Sara Silvestri, please MARKING CLEARLY the SUBJECT LINE with “Photo competition” or your message risks being discarded.

Confronting Racism in Ireland, the UK and the EU

Join several speakers as they discuss how the Covid-19 pandemic has shone light on systematic racial inequalities and injustices, including:

In the UK – attempts at whitewashing and denial

In Ireland – exclusionary politics of the far-right

In the EU – ‘vaccine nationalism’ has given new expression to forms of structural racism

Concerned about the prospects of democracy?

In Crises of Democracy, written by Adam Przeworski, the issues addressed include:

  • Political situations throughout the world of established democracies
  • Past misadventures of democratic regimes
  • Prospects of democracy

Take part in this webinar, jointly hosted by the Network for Interdisciplinary Studies of Law and the ARC Discovery Grant research project, to learn more about the current threats to democracy.

This is a great opportunity for participants to develop their understanding on the current threats to democracy. Such threats are not just political and can be embedded in current economic, social, and cultural conditions.

Refugee Awareness Month Panel

It’s Refugee Awareness Month!

The Refugee Programs Bureau (RPB) are hosting an online event to celebrate the courage, resilience and strength of refugees who have resettled in California.

This is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about the refugee community in California. A panel conversation will also be held with CDSS employees who will share their experiences as members of the refugee and immigrant community in California.
