Events Programme 2013-14
Each year, we hold several events designed to help staff disseminate their practices to others and celebrate successful initiatives, research and work. These events provide excellent opportunities for staff and researchers to share their experiences and network with colleagues.
Research Methods and Skills Development
Wednesday 4th December 2013 & Tuesday 20th May 2014
These two full-day events are targeted at doctoral students at City University London and offer a range of sessions around the theme of research methodologies and skills. The events also provides an open forum to share interests and explore research issues with other researchers and academic staff.

Researchers’ Symposium – Wednesday 26th March 2014
This event provides an opportunity for doctoral students to prepare for presenting posters and sessions on their research findings at academic conferences. Students will present their research methods to a supportive audience, gaining invaluable experience and constructive feedback
Learning at City Conference – Wednesday 4th June 2014
Each year the Learning Development Centre holds the Learning at City Conference and Exhibition. This will be the 6th annual higher education conference to be held by City University London, and colleagues from across the University will be sharing their research, innovation and practice in education.
Educational Technology Guidance

If you have any questions about how to use Educational Technologies take a look at the new Educational Technology Guidance Site. The site has been compiled to support the enhancement of teaching and learning experiences at City University London, through the integration of technology. Compiled by both school-based and central educational technologists, you will find areas with specific and more general information, spanning a wide range of technologies and their uses. It provides both student and staff guidance areas. If you have a question about an educational technology, including Moodle please refer to this site to find the answer. The site offers answers to basic FAQs and detailed guides on using educational technologies. Please see the links below;

The Educational Vignettes blog is the place to showcase all educational development activity at City University. It is designed to be a place to share practice, ideas, expertise and activities in the field of educational development.
Our colleague Rae has been busy updating the blog with useful hints and tips for Moodle 2 including how to embed twitter and other social media into your modules, how to make the most of quizzes and the usefulness of Scheduler when arranging tutorials.
She has also written an interesting post on engaging students in formative and summative assessment through the use of educational technologies.

MA in Academic Practice – Apply for modules in the spring term
This programme is open to all staff with teaching responsibilities and there is still time to apply for either the full course or stand alone modules relevant to your academic practice. The deadline to apply for modules running in Autumn 2013 has passed but there is still time to sign up for those running in the Spring and Summer
Learning at City Journal – Call for abstracts
The call for abstract for the next edition of the Learning at City Journal is now open. The “Learning at City Journal” provides an opportunity for you to share your developments, research and good practice. Articles submitted to the journal are blind peer reviewed by the Learning Development Fellows prior to publication. The journal is an in house publication which is published twice a year in Autumn and Spring.

Meet the Team
Neal
My role in the Learning Development Centre includes Programme Director for our Masters in Academic Practice Programme, and a school liaison role for the School of Health Sciences and the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. On the Masters programme I lead on our foundation module on Leaning, Teaching and Assessment, and have particular responsibility for modules on Technology Enabled Academic Practice and Information and Communications Technology in Higher Education. These latter modules reflect my long-standing interest in, and research into, the integration and impact of technology into educational delivery. This aspect of my role allows me to work closely with the university community of educational technologists, developing models of blended learning and horizon scanning. Additionally I provide workshops and support on the use of digital tools for the university research community through the LDC’s Research Development Days. In my school liaison role I work with academic and professional staff on curriculum design, development and evaluation. I have taught in the arts and technology faculties of the Open University and continue my interests in history through lectures and research when time permits. I enjoy walking, bird watching and the occasional glass of wine, a legacy of years spent living and working in France!
