My name’s Jessica Hancock and I work as a lecturer in Educational Development in LEaD at City, University of London.
Part of my role is to support people like you: PhD students who teach. I also lead modules and teach on our MA in Academic Practice.
Prior to working at City, I’ve taught at a range of UK Higher Education institutions: the University of Oxford, Brunel University, the University of Portsmouth, and Glasgow Caledonian University.
My background and own DPhil is in literature: my doctoral research examined gender identity in re-writings of the medieval Scandinavian Völsung legend (also the inspiration for Wagner’s Ring Cycle operas). As well as maintaining my interests in literature, I now have research interests in education. I’m currently working on a project which examines good academic practice from an identity perspective, particularly looking at transitions to masters level writing.
My future research plans centre around identity and PhD students who teach, so look out for a request for participants in the near future!
