The Jeremy Tunstall Global Media Research Centre began its seminar series this week
On Wednesday the 11th of October, Jane Singer, Director of Research and Professor of Journalism Innovation in the Department of Journalism, gave the following talk.
Title: ‘Fact-Checkers as Entrepreneurs and Intrapreneurs: Readers, Remits and Resources for a New Form of Watchdog Journalism’
Abstract: This study considers fact-checkers as innovators, exploring funding models as well as perceptions about three core aspects of a successful enterprise: audiences, value propositions, and resources. Findings indicate particular attention to media literacy and civic engagement, independence, and transparency. In addition, many fact-checkers see their role as not merely extending traditional journalism but also correcting some of its shortcomings.
The next seminar of the series will take place on Wednesday the 8th of November, 4-6pm. Eylem Yanardagoglu, Associate Professor, New Media Department, KIadir Has University, will be giving the following talk “Transnationalisation of Turkish Television Series: Dynamics of Distribution Production and Consumption”
This seminar series has been organised by Dr Carolina Matos, Director of the Jeremy Tunstall Global Media Research Centre.
