Call for nominations: General Assembly Chair

The European Social Survey European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ESS ERIC) has opened the process to appoint a new General Assembly Chair.

The ESS ERIC is seeking nominations for a new Chair of its General Assembly, who will serve a four-year term from November 2023.

The ESS ERIC is governed by a General Assembly, where national representatives meet twice annually to discuss governance matters and the work programme.

The European Social Survey is one of the world’s leading academically led cross-national social science research infrastructures providing high quality data about the social attitudes and social conditions of Europeans.

Its biennial surveys are conducted across over 30 countries according to the highest methodological standards which define the field.

At the current time ESS is preparing for a major data collection mode switch in 2027 where face-to-face interviews will be replaced by a self-completion approach.

The infrastructure has just over 200,000 registered users of the data and almost 6000 publications include findings based upon its data.

The ESS is an European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) Landmark infrastructure established as a legal form known as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) since 2013.

ESS ERIC is now seeking to appoint a new Chair. Those nominated should be senior social scientists with excellent managerial and chairing skills who can help steer the ESS on governance matters over the next four years.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the next phase of Europe’s leading cross-national general social survey.

Details about the position and how to be nominated can be found here: GA Chair Call 2023

All nominations must be received by ESS ERIC HQ via a ESS ERIC GA national representative by 1 September 2023.
