Professor Katerina Hilari

Katerina Hilari is a professor of acquired communication disorders and is the chief investigator on SUPERB. She oversees study coordination and management, data analysis, and dissemination. She is a speech and language therapist and researcher with extensive experience in longitudinal studies on quality of life and wellbeing in people with stroke and aphasia.

Jane Marshall is a Professor of Aphasiology. She is speech and language therapist and researcher with a strong record on evaluating a range of interventions for aphasia.
Professor Alan Simpson
Kings College London
Alan Simpson is Professor of mental health nursing with extensive experience of running large studies and evaluating new and complex interventions. He led the UK’s first pilot trial on the clinical and cost effectiveness of peer support in people discharged from mental health units.
Dr Shirley Thomas
University of Nottingham
Shirley Thomas is a health psychologist who has published widely on post-stroke depression. She led the CALM randomised control trial study, the largest study of its kind, on psychological therapy for people with aphasia and depression.
Dr Chris Flood
London South Bank University
Chris Flood is a senior lecturer. He has expertise in conducting health economic evaluations alongside randomised control trials.
Dr Sarah Northcott
City, University of London
Sarah Northcott is a research fellow speech and language therapist with a strong track record of studies of wellbeing in aphasia. She has experience of carrying out qualitative research, including evaluating novel interventions.
Dr Sally McVicker

Sally McVicker is a speech and language therapist speech and language therapist with extensive experience working collaboratively with people with aphasia.
Dr Kimberley Goldsmith
King’s College London
Kimberly Goldsmith is a senior lecturer in medical statistics. She has overseen a number of aspects of study design in collaboration with the team, and will lead the outcomes analysis to be undertaken by clinical trial statistician Kirsty James.
