Here’s to 2024! I hope the new year has got off to a good start for you, your family and friends.Photo of President Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein.

First, a moment to look back at 2023. Despite a very challenging environment we have

been extraordinarily successful over the past year: landing our new strategy, delivering on organisational change, collectively improving City’s student experience, extending our activities and operating at greater scale. Building on City’s strengths, our successes are visible in the Higher Education sector and beyond. You have reason to be proud of your alma mater and what we have achieved together with the continued support and dedication of our alumni the world over.

It gives me great pleasure to share with you City, University of London’s Impact Report 2023 which impressively demonstrates the amazing impact alumni support has had upon our students. The stories and successes outlined in the Report are a direct result of the philanthropic generosity of our alumni. I am also delighted that our alumni volunteers of 2023 are about to receive their City Certificate of Appreciation for their commitment and support of the University in a volunteering role. On behalf of our students and staff, I am grateful for the support that you give. You truly help make City the special place that it is.

Now, looking forward. At your University, we have an exciting and challenging year ahead. Our planned merger with St George’s, University of London will be a very significant and exciting development for City that will enable us to succeed at further scale in the future. We will be creating the biggest educator of Londoners in the capital and a ‘health powerhouse’ for students and researchers. Combining the institutions will, of course, take a great deal of collective effort to achieve. Our shared goal is to provide the space we need for brilliant teaching, excellent research and deep engagement with practice to deliver impact and enhanced relevance.

To you all, my very best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and successful 2024.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Alumni News.

Best wishes,

Anthony
