Congratulations to Bayes and City Alumnae Finalists at UK India Achievers

Launched last year to commemorate 75 years since India’s independence, the India-UK Achievers Honours celebrates the professional and social contributions of Indians who have studied in the UK. The initiative is led by the National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK (NISAU) in partnership with the British Council. What’s more, the India UK Achievers Honours recognise 75 Indian alumni of UK institutions who have excelled in fields including business, science and the arts.

Following in the footsteps of Tripti Maheshwari (MSc Finance, 2015) who was recognised in the Business & Entrepreneurship category for her work in founding the online platform for international students, Student Circus, in 2023, Bayes and City are proud to announce the success of Eshita Kabra-Davies (BSc Management, 2014) and Dr Nausheen Basha (PhD Mechanical Engineering, 2021) as finalists at the latest edition of the UK India Achievers Honours.

“It was an honour to receive the UK India Achievers Award! As a proud Indian citizen, I am especially passionate about creating a global business that makes sustainability accessible to people from all walks of life, and I am excited to be able to do this for the United Kingdom. I will continue to champion for more immigrant talent in my career, as they are the true underdogs.”

Currently a researcher in the area of Fluids Engineering at Imperial College London, Nausheen is no stranger to academic and professional accolades, having been listed among the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) Top 50 Women in Engineering in 2022. Whilst still a PhD student at City, she won the Institute of Refrigeration’s Ted Perry Award for her research into the Development of Screw Compressors by Improving the Oil Injection System. “I was delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist at the 2024 Achievers Honours, under the ‘education, science and innovation’ category. It was an eventful evening celebrating outstanding contributions of global achievers whose contributions shape not only the India-UK bilateral relationship but also global discourse on critical issues. Congratulations to all other finalists!”

India matters to City. Within our student community we are proud to host over 1,100 Indian students. We also value our educational and research partnerships with Indian universities. As a university we are committed to strengthening our engagement with India and better understanding the needs of Indian students. One of the ways in which we are doing is through our sponsorship and support of the India-UK Achievers initiative.

Commenting on the initiative Mark Hertlein, Head of Global Engagement, said: “City is delighted to support this initiative for the second year running. It highlights what an exciting time it is for Higher Education in India and provides insights on how UK universities can position themselves to engage with India, work with Indian universities and respond to the needs of Indian students. We recognise the important role that NISAU plays in the sector: the Achievers Awards provide an important reminder of the value of the relationship between the UK and India and the wealth of talent that has emerged as a result of this relationship.”
